I sorta’ took a day off Facebook and emailing today after what seemed to be a devastating defeat in the polls last night. I didn’t sleep well last night. Woke up prayed a lot. Couldn’t get back to sleep. My brief posts during the day were limited to asking someone to defend Obama’s Partial Birth Abortion stances, quoting 2 Chronicles 20:5-12 (see below) and posting 3 words: “Recoup, Recover, Reload”
But then I looked at the data and got over it. The Christian pundits and conservative talks shows were bemoaning the changing of America, many were saddened that perhaps our Nation had gone too far and now with all the gay marriage laws and Obama, we had finally lost the fight. The Right was dead.
I’m telling you all, don’t believe a word of it. It is ALL Hogwash.
Look the final counts, are still pending, but are close enough. It turns out Romney, a Mormon lost to Obama a Secular humanist with barely 48% to 50%. We are not talking about a sea change in America.
For crying out loud, we are talking a mere 2.8M votes difference in a nation of about 118M votes. But even that is not the entire story.
Less than 0.4%
We are really talking about a paltry 405,000 votes. 405 thousand. 405K. That’s the total of the votes in the swing states that voted for Obama vs. Romney that would have given Romney over 270 Electoral college votes. Do you realize that this is less than 0.4% of the total vote? What sea change are we talking about?
Think about it, there are over 350,000 churches in America. In the Swing states there are probably 30,000 if not more churches. Let’s say only 1/2 of them are Conservative Evangelical churches. Do you think we can find 27 more Christians per church to stop sitting around and get out and vote Godly values? Are you seriously trying to tell me that ALL of America has gone secular? This is sheer nonsense. Stop being demoralized.
But we have to do something about it!
Yes, what we need is ½ a million more voters in those swing states in 2014 and 2016. What we need are about 3-10M more Christian voters in the entire US in the next few years. With 60M Christian voters in the US, often with 30M of them not even voting, this is ours to lose.
America is not going secular
We Christians are falling asleep on the job.
Here’s what we can do
So if I may humbly suggest something. For that last 2 years, working with the American Family Association we’ve created a 40 Day Series called “40 Days Towards a More Godly Nation”, it’s a non-partisan 40 day series that you can have your church do. It talks about the connection between God’s laws and the Gospel and Government. It talks about socialism and control and God’s plan for government. Never a mention of parties or presidents. It’s all about God, the Bible and laws. Written in a dynamic easy to read, lots of stories style. It also introduces folks to the historical reality that Jesus was actually involved in Politics and with his politicians.
Churches who’ve done it, say it changed the entire dynamic of their congregation’s thinking when it came to politics, laws, government and preaching the Gospel. I’ve had people email me after the 4th day of reading and confess that they can’t believe they’ve had their head in the sand for so long.
It’s easy to do, with only about 5 pages of reading per day and a 6 week small group study. Just 40 Days.
Why not get some friends and go together to you pastor to suggest that he do this 40 Day Series in your church.
Or start your own
And if your church won’t do it, YOU do it. Start a 6 Week small group study at your home or at a restaurant where you can watch the 20 min weekly DVD on a laptop and discuss the questions. You don’t have to do anything but lead the discussions.
This is an easy battle. We don’t need to worry, we don’t need to hide. And we don’t need to convince a secular humanist to vote for Godly values. We just need to convince fellow Christians. Surely that’s easy if you use facts and the Bible.
Brother and sisters. This is ours to lose.
Now stop being demoralized and go start a small group.
Swing state votes that gave Obama the Victory 303 to 206 electoral votes –
all Romney needed was 64 more (as of 11-7-2012)
Florida 47,016 29 electoral votes
Nevada 66,000 6 electoral votes
Iowa 88,501 6 electoral votes
Ohio 101,000 18 electoral votes
Colorado 101,607 9 electoral votes
Total 404,124 68 votes
2 Chronicles 20:5-12
And Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court, and said, “O Lord, God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. In your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand you. Did you not, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend? And they have lived in it and have built for you in it a sanctuary for your name, saying, ‘If disaster comes upon us, the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and before you—for your name is in this house—and cry out to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save.’
Note that I don’t intend to take this passage out of context. It was for that time and place and may or may not apply to us today. I was noting how God does control all things.
Note I didn’t quote the Elijah passage with the remnant of 7000 good men. Because we aren’t a remnant. There are a host of us. We are NOT the underdogs in this fight. It’s time we realized that.
